Dahl with The Moreish One

The Moreish One

Dahl with The Moreish One

Ingredients

Dahl

30ml olive oil

1 large onion, finely diced

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 large thumb sized piece of ginger, peeled and minced

1 red chilli, finely sliced

150g red lentils, rinsed and drained

150g yellow split peas (chana dal), rinsed and drained

400g tinned tomatoes

200ml coconut milk

400ml water

Salt and pepper

1 lemon

Handful coriander

1/2 jar of The Moreish One

Spice Mix (or use something store bought)

1 tbsp cumin seeds*

1 tsp coriander seeds*

1 tsp garam masala

1 tsp turmeric

½ tsp dried chilli flakes

¼ tsp mustard seeds

*Toast and grind into a powder, alternatively use ground cumin and ground coriander

Method

  1. Heat a large heavy based saucepan over a medium heat. Add the oil and cook the onion, garlic, ginger and chilli until translucent and fragrant.

  2. Add in the spice mix and cook for a minute.

  3. Add in the tinned tomatoes, coconut milk, water and rinsed lentils and split peas. Add in a generous amount of salt and pepper. Cover and simmer for 40 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes to check it’s not catching on the bottom. If it looks a little thick and the lentils are still not cooked add in a bit more water.

  4. When the lentils are basically cooked add in half a jar of The Moreish One. Check seasoning and adjust as desired.

  5. Just before serving stir through chopped coriander and the juice of one lemon.

  6. To serve, divide between bowls and top with the rest of ‘the Moorish one’, a sprinkling of fresh coriander, sliced red chillies and a flat bread on the side.
